Scry Other

Secret Stash

In the era of Web 2.0 (or god forbid 3.0), the best resources for RPGs are strewn across the internet and with no webring to bind them. Finding good resources can be difficult if you do not know where to look and it comes down to word of mouth, or recommendations from others whose opinions you trust.

So, I'm taking the time to list out my recommended places to find additional content. Each of these is a treasure trove of inspiration, techniques, and thought provoking design. If you have your own recommendations, please send them along. I'm always craving new sources to improve my games and content to share with others.

itch.io - Physical Games
A great place to find the works of indie creators making all sorts of content for various smaller games. Many of them are so fascinating and interesting, that even if they aren't quickly compatible with your game of choice, they are at least worth a read. Many of the creators here are from the queer community and definately have unique voices sharing wonderful creations.

Questing Beast
Ben Milton has a number of great RPGs under his belt along with a YouTube channel where he reviews books and zines from the OSR scene. His monthly email newsletter, The Glatisant is worth the click alone. If you take one thing from his site, look into Maze Rats for a wonderful GM's resource with tons of tables for any system.

Raven Crowking's Nest
One of the best resources for Dungeon Crawl Classics content outside of the Goodman Games website. When just a bear isn't enough, RCK is converting all the old monster manuals and fiend folios to DCC. You'll find something fun there.

Goodman Games
Speaking of, DCC is often my drug of choice, and Goodman Games is my dealer. GG is constantly putting out great quality, low price point products, along with reproducing lavish versions of classic modules.

Necrotic Gnome
Necrotic Gnome publishes Old School Essentials (OSE), a cleaned up, smartly edited version of B/X D&D. Quite possibly the slickest RPG-as-tool to ever hit print. Great as a reference right at the table, and also to learn crisp formatting technique if you are looking to publish your own work.

MÖRK BORG
On the flip side of simple RPGs is MÖRK BORG. Death Metal in book form. While the rules are even slicker, cleaner, and simpler than OSE. The book's art direction is foetid, psychadelic, and just beautiful. Every page is a work of art, and belongs in your collection even if you don't play it. But you should play it.

One Page Dungeon Contest
Oh god, you don't have enough time to prep and you've got a session this week! What do you do?! You hit up OPD, find a fun dungeon and run it by the seat of your pants! Every year the One Page Dungeon Contest compiles a huge selection of quick, simple dungeons and awards the most clever and creative designs. PDFs of the contest have been compiled for over 10 years, so there is plenty of content to peruse, already vetted for you.

Any Dice
When you're designing your own content, trying to figure out the exact probability of your random tables, or just want to look at fun numbers, Any Dice is a great resource to play with randomizations. Plug in any combinations of dice to see what the likely outcomes are. Just dont fall for any statistical fallacies when observing this data!
